Eric Wampler - Principal

Eric Wampler has worked in Elizabethton City Schools since 2004. After three years as principal at Harold McCormick Elementary, he was named Interim Director of Early Learning, Curriculum and Testing in grades 6 -12, Attendance and Data Services.  He has returned to serve as the principal at Harold McCormick Elementary. He is a 1993 graduate of Council High School in Buchanan County, VA, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from ETSU, as well as a Master of Arts in Education and an Education Specialist Degree from Union College. He joined the United States Air Force in August of 1995 and served in Operation Northern Watch and Operation Desert Fox. He is now retired from the Tennessee Air National Guard, having served our country in support of Operation Joint Forge, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Southern Watch. Eric just celebrated 26 years of marriage with Samantha in July. Samantha is also an employee of the Elizabethton City School System. Eric and Samantha have two children, Owen and Ainsley.  He enjoys spending time with family, hunting, fishing, golf, and scuba diving.

Carla Whiles - Assistant Principal

Carla Whiles joined Elizabethton City Schools in 2010 serving as the librarian at Harold McCormick Elementary. As librarian, she filled various leadership roles in the school and district, moving into the assistant principal role in 2025. She attended college at The Ohio State University and University of Toledo, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communications/Journalism. After moving to Tennessee, she attended East Tennessee State University,  earning a Master of Educational Media and Educational Technology degree. She continued her education at Lincoln Memorial University, earning an Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership, and finally her Doctorate of Instructional Leadership. Carla focused her doctoral research on the academic impacts of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and how educators can better serve students to help them achieve academic success. Carla enjoys hiking, golfing, spoiling her dogs, and traveling with her husband and three grown children.
